Microsoft access 2016 student database free
I am using the Student Database, but I want to change the part where it says "Levels" 1st grade, 2nd grade, etc.. The Level combo is populated by a Value List, which is nothing more than a string of values separated by a semicolon.
In the Students database, you'd just change the values in that list to the ones you want. To do that, open the form in Design view and select the "Level" combo. In the Properties dialog select the Data tab and modify the values in the Row Source attribute to show the items you want. You'd be better off, however, using a table to store that, and basing that combo off that table.
You typically only use a Value List for items that are very unlikely to change like the names of States, for example. Many of the templates provided by Microsoft use the Value List technique incorrectly at least in my opinion. I couldn't agree more. I do wonder if those who design these things have even heard of Codd's Rules, never mind having read them. Rule 1: 'The entire information content of the database is represented in one and only one way, namely as explicit values in column positions in rows in tables'.
